Enterprise Auditing: 3 Keys to Selecting an Audit Partner

A few months ago I described why the current industry outsourced coding model delivers a sub-optimal result. The conclusion was drawn from many conversations I have had with clients over the past several years.  The perception that short term engagements with multiple outsource vendors can address the ongoing needs of a HIM department is flawed given the underlying realities in the market including a fundamental shortage of coders in the U.S., increasing demand for healthcare services, and reluctance of vendors to invest resources in coder education and development with episodic staffing engagements.

Ready, Set, Go! How Your CDI Process Can Boost The Transition to ICD-10

Posted by Melissa McLeod

I have been educating Provider’s on the documentation challenges and changes that are inherent in the ICD-10 coding system for the past year and it seems that many Providers are unprepared for the specificity required in medical documentation.  Clinical documentation integrity begins with the Providers, and training in this area is critical to a successful ICD-10 transition, however, the impact of education regarding documentation is negated if we do not have Provider engagement.  To encourage engagement, a basic understanding of the CDI and coding process is needed to facilitate ‘buy-in’ and make the documentation education and training better received.
